Vander Gaditano’s First Aid Treatment for Asthma is Pop Cola

Yesterday I drove my Singaporean friend to Vander Gaditano’s healing farm. We were talking shop last night about healing practices and one concept that I think requires blogging is that the specific brand Pop Cola is a significant first aid treatment for asthma.

Vander says Pop Cola has more carbon dioxide content than other cola brands. He says this rush of carbon dioxide when drank causes the lungs to expand and the asthma is relieved in the patient.

I have my own corollary explanation. Remember the Buteyko method where asthma is said to be caused by over breathing? That of too much oxygen. That asthma sufferers need to practice shallow breathing and slower breathing, allow their lungs to accumulate more carbon dioxide because in our lungs we humans make the effort of transforming the ambient air to a higher concentration of carbon dioxide before we are to optimally absorb oxygen in the blood. Maybe Pop Cola introduces this much carbon dioxide into the system and helps the asthmatic immediately, without the Buteyko method training.

As Vander says, there are many ways and many approaches to varying conditions. This is just one of them. I now have to look for a store that sells Pop Cola. If you are asthmatic, you need to stock up on Pop Cola.

I now take the opportunity to give you some terrible news from one of my teachers, Barefoot Herbalist MH:

JULY FIRST = BAD NEWS FOR HERBS by MH

July first, 2010 the FDA eliminates all the small herbal companies!!!!!!!!!!! This is the year! After July First, you will see all herbal capsules going way up in price as the USA starts treating herbs more like the European Medical strong hold has for years; driving the small business’s out.

Those making capsules have to test each pound of herbal powder before they make a capsule, after they make a capsule and then just prior to selling their bottles wholesale.

According to the small company that makes our capsules, the mandatory test per pound of herbs cost $50 per test. They told us that many companies are going to try to cheat and do 1 test per batch….a batch could be 500+ pounds of herbal powders, etc……but the law is specific stating they want a test for every pound used. This will drive the price sky high, more like european prescription herbs.

This allows the fda to have total control over “all” herbal capsules…tracking who makes them and who buys them.

ARE THE HERBS A PROBLEM?????????

Their gimmick is claiming the poor people that pick the herbs, are sickly humans and their breath/touch spreads germs to the herbs they touched….MEDICAL knows this all too well, because every doctor and every nurse that has ever taken a cavvination is walking petre dish of fungus and the reason why people enter a hospital with a mild problem and are carried home with staff.

The capsules have always been tested, but by the batch and not by the pound……the poound by pound testing is more than the market can absorb, so they will raise the prices very soon.

FREEDOM is being taken away by the “organized” crimminals of this world aS THEY SEEK TOTAL CONTROL, mafia style. World wide disease is here now, because the organized crimminals have been poisoning the general population for 60+ years now. They want total control of every drop of water you drink, they have control of all corporation made foods and corporation made products.

We have only been told about the capsule side of the new July first laws and no doubt many if not all herbal products are going to be controlled and all of the grass roots small family owned and even the larger independant herbal companies will all be driven out of business.

Those that have zero intentions of ever learning how to wild craft their own herbal supplies, should fill their freezers full of the essentials they like best. Everything we have made after July First has to come from a higher priced supplier, higher priced encapsulation, etc…..so the prices have to jump……this is how world wide gov. controls humans, they know $$$$$$$$$$ changes the way the humans live.

No doubt many herbal businesses will shut down or be shut down this year. Just a friendly warning, the same one Dr. Christopher was warning people 50 years ago that in about 50 years herbs would become impossible to obtain.

Their goal is all “standardized” herbs, which are nothing but mild toxic drugs, made in labs. Medical has hated herbs for 100 years, their union now controls much of the governments world wide, they have the power to stop all of the good doctors…..the colleges teach the doctors to be, to poison your unborn child, your baby, your toddler, your teenager…any good MD in North America, if not the entire world, would tell you that, “IF” he was your friend. If you trust your life, your family to strangers, trained in colleges controlled by the governments….then you truely have blind faith……find the books, such as BOOK I an let food be your medicines and learn how to harvest and use local herbs…..that way you can allow the world to pass you by and make your area your heaven on earth.

Paleo Diet Newsletter: Potatoes and Autoimmune Disease

Dr. Loren Cordain released this information about potatoes being part of the nightshade family and causing autoimmune diseases. Do you have an autoimmune disease? Maybe it is time you stopped eating potatoes.

This is not new info for me, we stopped eating potatoes some 4 years ago. The full text is posted at Raw Paleo Forum

Nightshade is the common name for flowering plants belonging to the botanical family Solanaceae, which contain more than 75 genera and 2,000 species. Some notorious non-edible nightshades include tobacco, petunias, jimson weed, mandrake, and deadly nightshade. The family comprises well known food plants such as potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers, chili peppers, eggplants and tomatillos. Note that chili peppers include all varieties of peppers from the genus Capsicum, including bell peppers, jalapeno, wax, cayenne, habanero, Anaheim, Thai, Tabasco, cherry, pepperoncini and Serrano among others. Chili peppers are commonly consumed as dried powders such as paprika, chili powder and cayenne, and are near universal ingredients in hot sauces, Tabasco sauces, and salsas.

Now on to potatoes:

Let’s first examine potatoes. Potatoes generally maintain one of the highest glycemic index and load values of any food3-6. Regular consumption of high glycemic index carbohydrates may promote obesity and diseases of insulin resistance, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, abnormal blood lipids, gout, acne, polycystic ovary syndrome, epithelial cell cancers (breast, colon and prostate), acanthosis nigricans (a skin disease), and male vertex balding7. Consequently in both of my books I do not recommend that potatoes be included as a regular component of Paleo Diets. Additionally, as you can see from Table 1, most of the potatoes consumed in the U.S. are highly processed in the form of french fries, mashed potatoes, dehydrated potato products, and potato chips. Processed potato foods typically are made with multiple additives (salt, vegetable oils, trans fats, refined sugars, dairy products, cereal grains, preservatives, and other food additives) that may adversely affect health in a variety of ways.

An additional nutritional property of potatoes that is rarely considered in regard to human health is their saponin content. Saponins derive their name from their ability to form “soap” like foams when mixed with water. Chemically, saponins are classified as either steroid glycosides or triterpenoid glycosides. A glycoside is any of a group of organic compounds occurring abundantly in plants that yield a sugar and one or more non-sugar substances upon hydrolysis (chemical decomposition in which a compound is split into other compounds by reacting with water). Steroid glycosides are commonly called glycoalkaloids.

Both categories of saponins are widely distributed throughout the plant kingdom including many cultivated crops. The primary function of saponins is to protect the plant from microbial and insect attack by dissolving cell membranes of these potential predators8. In mammals, including humans who consume saponin containing plants, these substances frequently create pores in the gut lining, thereby increasing intestinal permeability8-10. If they enter the bloodstream in sufficient concentrations, they cause hemolysis (destruction of the cell membrane) of red blood cells8-10.

Figure 1 shows how saponins disrupt cell membranes which may lead to a leaky gut. Saponins first bind cholesterol molecules in intestinal cell membranes due to the affinity of a saponin component (the aglycone moiety) for the membrane sterol (cholesterol)9. In the series of steps that follows, you can see how saponins cause portions of the cell membrane to buckle and eventually break free, forming a pore or a hole in the membrane.

Potatoes contain two glycoalkaloid saponins: ?-chaconine and ?-solanine which may adversely affect intestinal permeability and aggravate inflammatory bowel disease11, 12. Even in normal healthy adults, a meal of mashed potatoes results in the rapid appearance of both ?-chaconine and ?-solanine in the bloodstream13. The toxicity of these two glycoalkaloids is dose dependent – meaning that the greater the concentration in the bloodstream, the greater is their toxic effect. At least 12 separate cases of human poisoning from potato consumption, involving nearly 2000 people and 30 fatalities have been recorded10. Potato saponins can be lethally toxic once in the bloodstream in sufficient concentrations because these glycoalkaloids inhibit a key enzyme (acetyl cholinesterase) required for the synthesis of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter required for nerve impulse conduction10. The concentration of both ?-chaconine and ?-solanine in a variety of potato foods are listed in Table 3. Note that the highest concentrations of these toxic glycoalkaloids appear in potato foods containing the skins.

So the next logical question arises: Should we be eating a food that contains two known toxins which rapidly enter the bloodstream, increase intestinal permeability and potentially impair the nervous system?

In the opinion of these authors: “. . . if the potato were to be introduced today as a novel food it is likely that its use would not be approved because of the presence of these toxic compounds.” 11

Other researchers state: “Available information suggest that the susceptibility of humans to glycoalkaloids poisoning is both high and very variable: oral doses in the range 1 – 5 mg/kg body weight are marginally to severely toxic to humans whereas 3 – 6 mg/kg body weight can be lethal. The narrow margin between toxicity and lethality is obviously of concern. Although serious glycoalkaloid poisoning of humans is rare, there is a widely held suspicion that mild poisoning is more prevalent than supposed.” 10

The commonly accepted safe limit for total (?-chaconine + ?-solanine) in potato foods is 200 mg/kg, a level proposed more than 70 years ago, whereas more recent evidence suggests this level should be lowered to 60 – 70 mg/kg10. If you take a look at Table 2 you can see that many potato food products exceed this recommendation.

I believe that far more troubling than the potential toxicity of potato glycoalkaloids is their potential to increase intestinal permeability over the course of a lifetime, most particularly in people with diseases of chronic inflammation (cancer, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease and diseases of insulin resistance). A leaky gut has been recently proposed to be a universal initiating trigger for autoimmune diseases14 – a conclusion that I agree with15, as well as promoting cardiovascular disease16, 17 and diseases of insulin resistance18. When the gut becomes “leaky” it is not a good thing, as the intestinal contents may then have access to the immune system which in turn becomes activated thereby causing a chronic low level systemic inflammation known as endotoxemia16 – 18. In particular a component of the cell walls of gut gram negative bacteria called lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is highly inflammatory. Any LPS which gets past the gut barrier is immediately engulfed by two types of immune system cells (macrophages and dendritic cells). Once engulfed by these immune cells, LPS binds to a receptor (toll-like receptor-4) on these cells causing a cascade of effects leading to increases in blood concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines (localized hormones) including interferon gamma (INF-?),interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-?)16, 19. Two recent human studies have shown that high potato diets increase the blood inflammatory marker IL-620, 21. Without chronic low level systemic inflammation, it is unlikely that few of the classic diseases of civilization (cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases and diseases of insulin resistance) would have an opportunity to take hold and wreak their fatal effects.

A final note on potatoes – to add insult to injury, this commonly consumed food is a major source of dietary lectins. On average potatoes contain 65 mg of potato lectin per kilogram. As is the case with most lectins, they have been poorly studied in humans, so we really don’t have conclusive information how potato lectin may impact human health. However, preliminary tissue studies indicate that potato lectin resists degradation by gut enzymes, bypasses the cell wall barriers and can then bind various tissues22, 23. Potato lectins have been found to irritate the immune system and produce symptoms of food hypersensitivity in allergenic and non-allergenic patients24. Just say “no” to potatoes!!

Punishing Summer Heat, Punishing Electricity Bill, SWITCHED BILLS!

The summer of 2010 has just finished and it was unbelievably hot. I feel in the past 5 years this was the hottest one. To make matters worse, unbelievable mistake by the electric company. Last month’s bill was 8,000++ pesos! I panicked and replaced the 2 horsepower airconditioner with a 1 horespower money saver, but this month’s electric bill churned out 13,000++ pesos!!!

What a shocker! For a 1 floor 2 room house we get this bill? Crazy! 1 aircon, 1 fan, 1 computer and a few lights? We actually consumed more electricity than the “main” house? We actually consumed 3x more electricity than my office with 6 computers? Or did we? So I investigated this morning.

I was shocked to find out that the Manila Electric Company bills had erroneously swapped / switched reading our electric meter with the neighbor (a catering company).

The Buteyko Method: Over Breathing is the Cause of Asthma

Deep breathing, over breathing is a root cause of asthma. People are so caught up in the notion of oxygen consumption for good health, it seems “logical” that they breath more deeply. But that is not the case. Dr. Buteyko observed that more shallow breathing and even holding your breath exhaled which encourages more carbon dioxide in the lungs actually helps.

The logic, Dr. Buteyko theorizes is that human lungs make the effort of converting a lot of the air we breath in into carbon monoxide before actual absorption. He thinks that at one point in the past before humans evolved, the earth’s atmosphere had more carbon dioxide. Thus the lung adaptation of creating more carbon dioxide before actual absorption into the bloodstream.

You can experiment yourself and see that you easily make yourself dizzy silly if you try to breath more deeply and more often. But if you breath more shallowly, you are fine.

Our 5 year old girl had a molar extraction at the Biological Dentist

Yesterday afternoon was the day. After having some tooth and gum infection, and quenching the infection with very low carbohydrate, high fat diet with extra virgin olive oil pulling, our girl had her molar extracted yesterday. It was a simple 15 minute extraction with Dr. Gaba. Probably local anasthesia plus Reiki and our 5 year old daughter was a calm kid at every dental appointment.

We chose this method of extraction rather than the first offered to us with sedation. Where sedation involves an anesthesiologist with full body anasthesia, which to our mind was adding more danger, more complications to what should be a simple extraction. In fact, if this second dentist wanted the same sedation I was prepared to put my girl fully on raw paleo diet full time and wait for the darn tooth to fall off.

There is a 2nd molar that needs attention as well. It was not touched at this appointment maybe next week.

In the meantime, very low carb diet continues. I’ve got my raw liver ready and waiting in the ref. 🙂

157-year-old woman in Indonesia?

Interesting news.  Indonesian census officials think the claim of a woman that she is 157 years old may be true. “There’s no authentic data to prove her age but judging from her statements and the age of her adopted daughter, who’s now 108 years old, it’s difficult to doubt it,” statistics bureau official Jhonny Sardjono said.

There have been reports of 150 year olds in parts of India. There have been reports of regular centenarians in Japan. My own paternal grandparents are expected to be centenarians. My paternal great grandparents were centenarians.

There’s a loose global tribe of raw meat eaters of which I am a member of in www.rawpaleoforum.com – is that strange?

I know there is this 108 year old guy who wrote a book and is flying around the USA giving speeches about longevity and health, he is a 2nd generation health advocate taught by his own father at a young age. Imagine if his descendants are taught as well.

I myself expect no less than 100 years lifespan, even pushing it to 120 if I get my health paradigms right. Plus I expect to teach my own descendants so they will have longer higher quality experiences than I ever did.

The problem with old people these days is that records of yore were not well kept.
