Weston Price sheds light on the malnutrition epidemic

July 15, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I’m currently reading Dr. Weston A Price’s original 1939 book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” and he packs a lot of clear, plain english ancient wisdom to enlighten our ignorant society.  What was most useful to me is the chapter on Soil Depletion and Pland and Animal Deterioration.  Which in short says somewhat: “You can’t build something from nothing.”

Weston Price

Weston Price

Fertile soil gives the raw materials with which you build nutrient rich plants.  The nutrient rich plants feeds the grazing animals.  Humans eat the grazing animals, the vegetables and the fruits whose raw materials ultimately came from the soil.  Abuse that soil over centuries and you literally deplete it of life giving minerals which affect your vegetables, fruits and animals and in turn humans.

This is another piece of the puzzle why in my recent diet experiments I have thrived wonderfully on raw organic / wild local in season fruits and raw wild ocean fish and raw organic / fertile eggs and raw organic goat internal organs.  These are the most nutritious foods in my locale.

Goats have to be fed green grass, not feeds.  Organic eggs are the best nutrition chickens or ducks can give.  The ocean is vastly more nutritious than the depleted farm lands.  Thus ocean animals are immensely healthier and thus more life giving to us humans than land animals.  Fruits are immensely more nutritious than vegetables as fruits are painstaikingly made by the trees or the bush to be edible and those nutrients are concentrated on the fruits.  Vegetables grow too fast.

This is why the Wai Diet is great.  Get the best organic fruits and raw nuts in your locale, get the best raw ocean fish you can buy, never farmed.  Get the most nutritious part of the land animals is my addition aside from the raw egg yolks, the raw internal organs such as liver and kidneys are outstanding.

Many of todays diseases are a combination of lack of proper drainage = constipation; and lack of nutrition.

I love babies and Weston Price has made me conscious about the need to feed children immensely nutritious food all the time.  Making children needs immensely nutritious food given to the father and mother many years prior to reproduction.  Aspiring mothers especially need lots and lots of nutrition, raw materials to make babies with.  Ah the epidemic of infertility today is in a large part due to malnutrition.

It all fits in, it all fits.  Read Weston Price’s book for Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. Enjoy and be enlightened.

Raw maya maya fish eggs dipped in organic vinegar tastes great

July 14, 2008 by Good Samaritan

Last Saturday I was lucky to have stumbled onto less than 1 kilo of maya maya fish eggs.  3/4 of it my cook put it in soup for the kids, the rest I cut up raw in a bowl and put organic coconut vinegar on it.  After some 10 minutes, the vinegar prepared eggs were ready.  Just use chop sticks to pick up a piece and plop it on my plate to squeeze out the vinegar, then eat.  Wow, savory, spectacular.  I thought it would taste terrible as it didn’t look like anything much, but it tasted great!  And very filling too, eggs, rich in fat.  Even my sister in law who usually has her raw limits tasted the raw fish eggs and found them really good.

Next time you stumble onto fish eggs, grab a hold of them fast and try what I just did.  It may surprise you too!

My wife and I enjoy a raw mackerel for dinner

July 14, 2008 by Good Samaritan

Found fresh mackerel at 6:30am in the market this morning.  I bought 1/2 of the mackerel and had it filleted.  Packed and put ice on top of the fish and put it in the refrigerator for our sashimi dinner.  I had the cook use the fish bones and some meat and skin in it to make a clear soup.  Ah, hot mackerel soup and mackerel sashimi for dinner.  That stuffed us well.

My review of mackerel is that it has its distinct taste.  It’s as good as tuna.  And it is so much cheaper.  But the supply is erratic.  Tuna is abundant.  Mackerel is just 1 fish available at a time.  The tuna is big and the fish vendors know that the tuna is to be filleted.

It’s just as the Wai Dieters have rated.  Raw mackerel taste is excellent!

Raw Ocean Dilis is cheap and healthy fish protein

July 14, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I was craving for those thumb width dilis (small Philippine fish) this morning, but I was only able to find smaller than pinky finger sized ones.  No matter, I bought 1/4 kilo for 30 pesos, which is more than I will need for proteint the whole day.  Just dip the dilis for a few minutes in my raw organic coconut vinegar until the fish turn a little white, and they are ready to eat tummy and head and bones.  Crunchy, yummy dilis.

To counteract the monotony of the fish meat, this afternoon I gorged on some fresh green raw salads dipped in extra virgin olive oil and raw green honey.  Fantastic combination.  I stuffed myself over lunch.  And since it was all raw, it was the good kind of stuffing where you feel good and full but not over the top or get sleepy.

Did you understand the price I was talking about?  120 pesos per kilo, but I only bought 1/4 kilo because that is more than enough when raw.  That’s cheap.  Cheaper than tuna, cheaper than mackerel.  I added another 20 pesos and bought 1/4 kilo of lato sea weed.

If you want cheap raw healthy fish, dilis is it.

I found the raw balut wholesaler in the market

July 14, 2008 by Good Samaritan

Commuting and walking around in the city market paid off again.  This time I discover the balut wholesaler stalls.  Balut is developed duck egg.  Usually sold 17 days old in incubation.  Duck eggs usually hatch in 21 days.  So the wholesaler of the balut sell the eggs just in time for the balut vendors or for those with families like mine.

A raw / live balut sells for around P 6.50 each.  I see there is quality control.  A lamp is available and the seller checks each and every egg to see the developing chick inside.  These are live chicks.  You can try incubating the balut eggs some 4 or 5 days more and hatch your own baby ducklings.

Some of you may know I’m on a raw paleolithic diet today and I do eat raw meat, including raw chicken, but I don’t think I have the heart yet to open up a live duck egg and eat a live moving duck embryo.

So the balut wholesaler and vendors there teach me how to cook the balut eggs.  Clean the balut eggs with soap and water to remove the poops for hygene. Just put it the eggs in your pot and enough water a little below the tops of the balut eggs.  Turn on your cooking stove and wait for less than 5 minutes for the water to boil.  Once the water boils, immediately turn down the fire to low and let it stay for 15 minutes.  Turn off and drain the hot water.  Your freshly cooked balut is now ready to eat.

Freshly cooked balut is outstanding.  If you have tasted balut from the regular night time vendor, you will taste the difference from your just cooked balut. Your just cooked balut tastes awesome!  I think it is because the regularly sold balut at night may have been cooked a few hours ago, kept heated and probably reheated many times already for several days.  Fresh is best.

My family tasted the difference, my employees tasted the difference. Now all our taste buds have been upgraded to want fresh balut.

I think raw / live balut should be on fear factor.  Crack open a live balut chick and….

The Homocysteine Factor: a measurable lab result tool for health

July 14, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I just finished reading a book called The H Factor.  The authors Holford and Braly push their new found tool to measure health, called Homocysteine.

On the cover it says:

“Homocysteine is the new cholesterol.  It’s potentially your most important health statistic.”

“The fast new way to dramatically improve your health and add 20 years to your life.”

“Homocysteine – the biggest health breakthrough of the century.”

In the introduction, it gets even better:

“This amazing predictive chemical is an amino acid – a building block of protein – found naturally in the blood.  Our levels of it, or our “H score’, are more accurate than a cholesterol reading in terms of predicting our risk of a heart attack or stroke, and a better measure than genes of our risk of Alzheimer’s.  In fact, your H score predicts your risk of over 50 diseases – including increased risk of premature death from all common causes.  It can even tell you how quickly you will age.  And by revealing your B vitamin nutritional status, immune system function and state of your brain, it shows how well your body’s chemistry can roll with the punches.”

The following is the conclusive study the authors base their touting of Homocysteine measurements:

“Researchers from the University of Bergen in Norway, one of the world’s leading homocysteine research centers, measured the homocysteine levels of 4,766 people in their sixties a decade ago (1993), and then recorded who died and who didn’t.  This is what they discovered.

A mere five-point decrease in H score predicted a:

49% reduced risk of death from all causes

50% reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease

26% reduced risk of death from cancer

104% reduced risk of death from any causes other than cancer or heart disease”

So if you are a numbers guy, who likes getting lab results and targets numbers, homocysteine may be one of the numbers you should be interested in.

The authors then have a chapter titled: Ten Steps to Superhealth

1. Begin by testing your homocysteine level
2. Follow the ten-step H Factor Diet
3. Take the H Factor supplements at the dose prescribed, depending on your H score

And the ten step H factor diet:

1. Eat less fatty meat, more fish and vegetable protein.
2. Eat your greens.
3. Have a clove of garlic a day.
4. Don’t add salt to your food.
5. Cut back on tea and coffee.
6. Limit your alcohol.
7. Reduce your stress.
8. Stop smoking.
9. Supplement a high strength multivitamin every day.
10. Correct estrogen deficiency.

At the back of the book it says:

“The H factor stands for health.  You can reduce your H level in two months and dramatically increase your chances of a long, health and pain free life.

So where am I in the H factor paradigm?  I should be at the top!  I’m on a raw paleolithic diet.  Majority raw organic fruits (we in the Philippines have tons of fruits), few raw organic vegetables and raw nuts, raw organic / fertilized egg yolks (chicken and duck), raw wild / ocean fish and some raw beef, raw chicken and some raw goat liver and kidneys.

I don’t touch artificial vitamins or supplements because I have observed that raw food is more powerful than any of those.  Results are fast and easily noticeable. The H Factor book was written for the masses who eat COOKED FOOD.

Now to find a laboratory that measures homocysteine and check if what these researchers say is true.
