Eat Less Rice – minimize obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, – Dick Gordon for President

February 20, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Sen. Dick Gordon is running for President of the Philippines in this May 2010 elections and he is encouraging fellow Filipinos to eat less rice.

“We should eat less rice … because [too much is] bad for our health. Diabetes comes with too many carbohydrates. I would like a campaign like that,” said Gordon, the standard-bearer of the Bagumbayan party.

Carbohydrates like rice break down as sugar and are stored as fat when not burned as energy. And an eat-less-rice program fits the doctor’s prescription against lifestyle diseases like obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes, Gordon said.

What can I say? Bravo!!! Sen. Dick Gordon hits a home run with his less rice is healthy issue.

Personally, I don’t eat rice. Stopped eating rice more than 2 years ago. I found out I’m all the better for it. In my family, my wife has reduced her rice and we have been encouraging our children to eat less rice. We want more protein and more fat. The more raw the better.

The logic I follow is the original diet of humans is a Raw Paleolithic Diet. For those still adjusting, they cook their meats. Me, I do not.

For the record, I’m voting for Dick Gordon for President because I and my wife know him personally to be a dedicated administrator who delivers far beyond your dreams. With Dick Gordon at the helm, the Filipino people will achieve more in 6 years than it has in the last 20 years.

China Slim Tea Dieter’s Delight Relieves Constipation making the rounds in our household

February 19, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Some wonderful people gifted me with Senna Tea branded as China Slim Tea.  It’s been making waves in our household lately.  Usually, people in the household are dependent on expensive but effective Dr. Tam’s Miracle Tea.  So the Dr. Tam’s ran out and what they saw left in the kitchen was China Slim Tea.

Probably in his time of need by not having pooped for 3 days, driver Benny tried the tea and pooped his troubles away.  Maid Arlene did the same and pooped her troubles away.  MIL also tried the tea and pooped her troubles away.  Powerful tea bag.

What is in China Slim Tea?  Ingredients: Cassia Acutifolia Delile (Senna Leaf), Folium Sennae, Tinnevelly Senna, Cassia Angustifolia Vahl, Panax quinquefolium, radix panacis quinquefolii.

China Slim Tea is a 100% pure and natural herbal tea.  It contains no preservatives, additives or caffeine.  This special herbal formula is uniqely blended from the highest quality herbs, whose values have been established and tested in the orient for centuries.

Directions: Pour one cup (8 fl oz) of hot water over one teabag and let steep for 2 minutes.  Do not over steep.  Drink one cup a day after meal.  Honey may be added to sweeten the taste.

Reminder: Due to the cleansing nature of this herbal tea, one may experience extra bowel movements for the first few days of usage.

My personal reminder is that this is a tool to unclog your colon.  Like all tools, do not abuse it, do not be dependent on it.  Change your diet to have more fruit and fat… yes FAT so you will naturally move your bowels.  Adjust your position in your pooping bowl by doing more squatting.  You can use a foot stool underneath your feet when you sit in your stool.  You do not have to read the newspaper or magazine nor sing while you are pooping.  Just get it over with in less than 5 minutes.

Horse Meat as Staple Food for My Family

February 17, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Yesterday I read in the newspaper a feature on horse meat that it was healthy meat.  That the people in the City of Malabon had it as a staple food.  No doubt cooked.  Curiosity got the better of me so this morning after dropping off the children in school, I and the driver drove to Malabon City to buy some horse meat.

We arrived in the main wet market (bayan) just behind the Malabon City Hall.  We found two butchers side by side selling fresh horse meat.  They said the horse meat came from a slaughter house in the town of Obando.  Slaughtered in the afternoon and arriving in the Malabon wet market at 4am the next day.  Fresh enough for me.

Most common meat is that of the legs, most of the muscles are there, right?  The price is a mere 170 pesos per kilo, same as pork.  There is a lot of yellow belly fat hanging on the butcher stall and the butcher will add a standard amount of fat with your order of the lean muscle meat that is sliced into steaks about 1/4 of an inch thick.  Fat is priced the same as the meat.  The fat of the horse is more tender than beef fat and is easily chewed liquid.

There is also the “hard” part of the leg which the butcher said is sold separately for other cooking purposes.  Then there are the ribs and bones which can be used for adobo dishes.  I also found a horse heart, good raw, and added it to my order.  Internal organs you have to order by phone as there are bulk buyers who get those.  The butchers say they have higher priced horse tenderloin at 220 pesos per kilo but it is on a per order basis as bulk buyers buy them.  Although I see no reason why we should get that tenderloin when the regular steaks I got were already as tender as the tenderloin of beef.

It is not true that a horse is lean meat only.  The muscles are indeed lean with hardly any fat on them, but you balance this by buying fat that comes from the belly of the horse.  Never eat protein in the absence of fat… that is a recipe to get sick, you get protein poisoning from undigested proteins you get kidney damage… especially from cooked lean meats… so eat your fats, especially raw, its good for you.

In the market I tasted the raw meat, the raw fat, and the raw hearts.  All great.  I wound up buying 6 kilos total.  We then went to a suggested canteen / carinderia to eat some local Malabon city cooked horse meat.  We got adobo and tapa.  With rice.  I had to sacrifice as this is what my children could be eating.

My driver was raving about how good cooked horse was.  I didn’t think much of the cooked horse.  I thought the over cooked meat made it tough.  The fat was cooked into oil.  And with rice, my digestion was penalized.

When we got home the kids had already finished dinner.  But I announced the fresh horse meat I just bought.  They were all excited they wanted to taste horse meat.  So we made a batch with some organic coconut vinegar and fresh raw garlic on some horse meat steaks and some fat.  Seared the horse meat for some 30 seconds per side and served.  Kids loved it, my wife liked it, they raved about it, seared horse is tender and full of flavor.  Kids said horse meat tasted really good.  They are going to have more of the same for their packed breakfast and lunch tomorrow.

I had my raw horse dinner.  It was one of the best raw meats I tasted.  Tasted better than raw goat, better than raw carabao, better than raw chicken.  I’d say it is on par with beef but with its own taste.  Now I know why the Japanese serve raw horse sashimi.

My research on the internet found that in Continental Europe and asian countries and Japan, horse meat is a staple.  And historically and prehistorically and paleolithically horse meat was staple food.  The cave drawings with horses are there not because the cavemen found them beautiful or wanted to ride them, the cavemen drew horses because they were one of their favourite meats!

What is left for me to do is to investigate by going to Obando and see the horse slaughterhouse for myself to see how healthy and where the horses come from.  I know they cull old horses and injured horses for sale, just like they do with carabaos.

I am convinced horse meat belongs as a staple food for my family.  Malabon City is near enough as a supplier.  And the price is right.  It’s cheaper than beef.  And horse meat tastes really good raw, it must be nutritious and biologically compatible with my body.

Raw Paleo Diet to Cure Cold of 5 year old Girl

February 17, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Our 5 year old girl was down with a terrible, stubborn cold for 2 weeks.  We admit, the air in the condominium is dirty with all the building constructions going on.  If this doesn’t work, we will have to move out.

In the first few days of being sick my wife gave our daughter her anthroposophic therapy of mercurius vivus and cough elixir, then onto cayenne tincture.  Our daughter dreaded cayenne tincture, too hot for her.  She was able to go to school for a few days then got terribly sick again.  She had to stay home the whole week last week and miss 1 whole week of classes.  In that 1 week at home we put her on paleo diet with cooked meat and raw fruits.  Stubborn mucus still there with chest pains when coughing.

Late last week my wife got some fresh oregano leaves.  Maids squashed the oregano leaves to extract some juice for our daughter to drink.

I was reading Henry Bieler Friday night and his recommendation for colds.  He said umpteen formulations for colds have been made but his solution is a temporary juice fast and bieler soup fast.

So Saturday I put our girl in a diluted orange juice fast plus coconut juice and coconut meat.  Sunday same thing plus bieler’s soup, which she did not like then some raw fish at the end of the day.  Monday put her on a raw paleo diet with raw tuna and raw sea urchin plus some fruit and coconuts.  Tuesday more coconuts and raw blue marlin and in the evening some lightly seared beef sirloin.  Today Wednesday coconuts, papaya, melon and some raw tuna in school.  Yesterday I bought a 1 whole freshly caught 8 kilo tuna fish.  Only the freshest for my daughter.

More raw paleo days for my daughter.  Tuesday there was no more chest pain.  Today no more mucus, she is breathing through her nose.  She recovered faster than her 6 year old brother who still has mucus but not enough to bring him down.

I told her the indicator of being well and a go signal to eat cooked food again was her left ear eczema.  On her the left ear eczema seems to be an indicator of blood acidity / purity.  Plus the other night she cried when a pushy nannie put shampoo on her.  I keep saying the mantra no shampoo, no soap.  It harms the little one.  Good she cried lots that night to tell everyone in the household that shampoo is merely chemicals harming her.  She feels pain under her left ear with those shampoo chemicals, no matter how natural or organic the label says it is.

Ridiculous shampoo ads.

So when the chips are down, some juice fasting and raw paleo diet seems to be delivering the goods… yet again.  We are having some logistics adjustments with her school lunch meals.  We put the sashimi in a styrofoam container and pass by my office at Farmer’s market, buy 10 pesos worth of ice and shove it in the styro then go to school.

I must remember to buy more coconuts before I go home.  Coconuts give better hydration than plain old water.

Lesson learned again.  Raw paleo diet delivers consistently for me and the children.

Horse meat secret to long life? Where do I buy Horse Meat in Manila?

February 16, 2010 by Good Samaritan

An interesting article in the Philippine Star. Horse meat secret to long life? My question is, where do I buy horse meat in Manila?

There must really be something in horse meat. The healer Vander Gaditano once told me that the horse is a powerful animal and its meat will give you a different kind of strength. I have tasted some cooked horse meat in a business meeting.  But I want to taste it raw.

Here’s a clip from that news article:

Roque said some of the oldest folks in the city are horsemeat eaters and they continue to have a diet of horse meat.

Rey Asistio, horse meat enthusiast, said for the last 20 years, he has been eating horse meat and found it very delicious and enhances body resistance particularly to minor illness.

“Lumalakas ako pag kumain ng kabayo” (I feel stronger when I eat horse meat).”

Eating horse meat is a long time tradition of the city.

Bong Padua, Malabon public Information officer, said it’s only in Malabon where the horse meat is a favorite delicacy.

“Tourists come to Malabon to have a taste of the favorite delicacy.”

Sea Urchin / Uni Sashimi in Farmers Market, Dirt Cheap in Ilocos

February 15, 2010 by Good Samaritan

I took my 5 year old girl with me to the office this morning. She was on orange juice and coconut juice. This is her raw paleo diet week. She then said she was hungry and wanted sashimi / raw fish and / or raw oysters. Sure.

We went down, bought some calamansi and some guavas. Then for some fish. The hawky vendor offered me uni aka sea urchin… oohhh… yummy… 500 pesos for that small plastic container. He said it was 1/2 kilo, fully packed and submerged in ice. Maybe it was 1/2 kilo or less. I hadn’t had uni in a long time, my little girl was recovering from a long cold, this is a good excuse to blow some money away. So I bought it.

Yummy. Lip smacking good. My daughter relished the raw sea urchin. I taught her to put it on top of the raw tuna sashimi slices… great combo. She really pigged out on it. I pigged out on it myself. In a few short minutes, this made my daughter so sleepy she took a mid morning nap with the nannie in my office. Parent mission accomplished.

I went home for lunch to make sure my 2 boys had their fill of the raw sea urchin. They liked it. More with my 8 year old. We were frustrated some 2 years ago when in Palawan we paid for a lot of sea urchin only to open them and find they were “malnourished”. It wasn’t worth opening the rest of them to find such tiny amounts of sea urchin meat.

I offered my sister in law some uni sashimi, I know she likes this stuff. She declined. She said in her visits to her job in Ilocos province she eats mounds of this stuff. Yes, she eats something like half a kilo in one sitting she said. And that sea urchin was so cheap in Ilocos she pays only 70 pesos to 100 pesos per kilo. She couldn’t believe I paid 500 pesos for my tiny tupperware.

Well thanks for telling us. Now we know where to order a lot of raw sea urchin. She’s going back to Ilocos on Monday. And be back in a few days. While we wait for our next batch of uni sashimi… maybe 2 kilos will do… ha ha ha… pig out!
