Dr. Oz on Diet: GMO Food Labeling is a Good Idea

March 12, 2012 by Good Samaritan

Dr. Oz is a popular television show. In this diet segment Dr. Oz. presents a made for TV balance of guests. People who are proponents of GMO foods. And a guy who is against GMO foods.

Monsanto did not send a representative, but the lady would seem to be their representative as she says GMO is totally safe. The guy against GMO said that is blatantly false.Continue Reading

Durian Health Benefits: Durian Festival in Calinan

March 11, 2012 by Good Samaritan

I’m currently visiting the wonderful city of Davao. No joke that the symbol of Davao city is the durian fruit. Durians are littered everywhere in the city. There are literally durians and durians and durians every where you go in the city and in the outskirts. And it is only March 2012. Does Davao city get buried in an avalanche of durians by September 2012? I can’t imagine.Continue Reading

Sea Weed Noodles! Rare. Look! Colorful, In Clumps, Granular on Close Up

February 29, 2012 by Good Samaritan

I went to the marikina wet market this morning and I was lucky to have stumbled upon a new batch of rare sea weed noodles.  These are naturally occurring noodle looking sea weeds… looking more like the traditional pancit in the Philippines.  This time I bought 2 kilos instead of the usual half a kilo.  I’ll stuff myself with these today.  And besides, I’ve got guests coming over.

The first batch of sea weed noodles I got from Farmers market in Cubao. More information from this wet market seller this time.  She said that to distinguish freshness, see that the sea weed noodles are in clumps.  If they are no longer in clumps, they aren’t fresh anymore.  And to keep them fresh until tonight, her tip was to put these in the refrigerator exposed to the air inside.

Of course at home I immediately ate 2 bowl fulls.  The first bowl my 10 year old boy had half of that.  We just cleansed these noodles in some organic coconut vinegar, you never know how it was handled.  Delicious.  Just like the artificial noodles.  But guilt free, because these are naturally occurring sea creatures.

Does anybody else have more info on these sea weed noodles?  Please tell us more by replying below.

Take a look!  Macro shot of these sea weed noodles.  Very interesting granular composition.

How to Open a Coconut at Home the Fastest Way

February 25, 2012 by Good Samaritan

I remember being frustrated at seeing a video of someone showing how to open a bald coconut for coconut milk. The guy in the demo was poking holes in the coconut “eyes”… and taking an abominably long time to finish the entire process. My eyes rolled.

Well here is how to open a coconut at home the fastest way. I live in coconut land, so that’s all the credentials I need.

Step 1 – Get bald coconut on palm of left hand and expose the axis on top. Have a basin ready at the bottom of your hand to catch coconut water.

Step 2 – Get your big heavy knife and flip it for the blunt edge ready for striking the coconut across the axis / equator.

Step 3 – Strike once hard, the coconut will split across the axis and release the water. Pry open with knife if needed to release the coconut water.

Step 4 – If the coconut is not entirely split open, turn the coconut 90 degrees across the axis and strike it again a SECOND TIME. If you don’t finish opening a 2nd time, strike a THIRD TIME.

That’s it. Coconut open.

As you can see there is absolutely no danger in you harming your left hand with your big knife because the blunt edge is used to strike the coconut.

I hope this helps you open up coconuts pronto.

Whoa! Real Raw Unprocessed Sea Weed Noodles!

February 18, 2012 by Good Samaritan

I’ve seen this before, and I may have eaten this before, but this is the very first time I can really remember and record for me to eat real raw unprocessed sea weed noodles! Yes, this is the real thing. Nothing fake about it. This grew under the sea and they just harvested this as is and sold it as is. All our 4 maids know this kind of sea weed noodles, it’s native to them in their provinces.Continue Reading

February 14, 2012 by Good Samaritan

My aloe vera gel experiment continues. My kids liked the first Korean aloe vera drink I got. Bought 3 more. They seem to be addicted to it immediately. Must be the artificial flavors and food coloring. Causes you to pee immensely.Continue Reading
