Authentic Tawilis Fish from Taal Lake in Talisay Town

August 27, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Last Sunday my raw paleo diet friend E and I drove 9 km down to the town of Talisay. Talisay is one of the towns beside the Taal volcano lake. Here we saw authentic Tawilis fish – a species found only in Taal Lake.

It has been said that many years ago of I don’t know how long, this volcano had exploded to create this lake and be sealed off from the rest of the ocean. This allowed taal lake to develop its own unique ecology powered by freshwater and nutrients from Taal volcano.

I asked the wet market vendors about their authentic tawilis fish. Why the tawilis fish in Cubao and Marikina wet markets looked different… they said that was some other species being sold off as “tawilis”… fake tawilis… not from Taal lake. Obviously, these Talisay wet market vendors are the authority because they live here by Taal lake!

Of course I tasted one raw Tawilis fish plus the head. Very very good. Back at home, they were lightly grilled and everyone agreed that these authentic Tawilis fish tasted really good, much better than the fake tawilis of which I had stopped buying for some time because those didn’t taste good at all.

I’m pretty sure you can find some authentic Tawilis in your wet market sometimes. So as reference, here are some pictures for you to compare. There are also pictures of the view of Taal volcano and taal lake from the edge of Talisay market.

Tawilis are lake wild fish, fresh volcanic water fish. They are never caged.

The Truth about Low-Carb Diets vs Controlled-Carbohydrate Meals by Mike Geary

August 3, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Now, THIS is my kind of health advocate, I’ll have my own muscles by the end of the year. Mike Geary recommends a “hunter-gatherer type of diet of meats, eggs, nuts, seeds, fruits, and veggies, which I believe is the healthiest way to eat.” Continue Reading

Amebiasis or Amoebiasis Cured by Liquid Herbal Dewormer

August 2, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Barefoot Herbalist MH’s liquid herbal dewormer saves the day yet again! The investment we made in stocking this herbal concoction was worth it. This time for SIL. She was down with liquid poop for 5 days until she told me she had a problem. I asked her to compare symptoms with my wife who has had several experiences with amebiasis or amoebiasis and was twice hospitalized for it. They both agreed that SIL has amebiasis / amoebiasis.

Our procedure to address amebiasis is 2 fold:

First. Take Barefoot Herbalist MH’s dewormer 2x per day. 1 dose is 1 tablespoon in 1/2 cup of filtered water. Stir slowly. Sip for 5 long minutes. Do not gulp. Do this 30 minutes before breakfast and 30 minutes before dinner.

The first time SIL took a dewormer dose, she immediately noticed a warm to almost hot feeling. She had to turn on the electric fan toward her. I don’t know what that meant. Must have been part of the healing process.

Second. Take Henry Bielers’ soup by boiling Zucchini, Parsely and String Beans together for around 15 minutes, then put them all in a blender. She took 2 cups a day for 2 days. The purpose of this is to nourish the liver and give some fiber to help form stools.

Making Bieler’s soup is easy. Just double the weight of zuccini over the string beans plus a small bunch of fresh parsley. Put in pot of water, turn on the burner, boil for 10 minutes. Then blender. Use some of the boiled in water to adjust viscosity of soup.

In a little less than a week, her stools gradually formed up until they were fully formed again, she is all well, up and at em. No hospitalization, no drugs with bad side effects. I suggested she just finish the 30 day parasite cleanse protocol. Let’s see what SIL decides to do.

Thank you again, MH!

Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil

July 11, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Some of my foreign readers are asking for a recommendation of virgin coconut oil. The brand we buy, Carica is a local brand. I’ve been to their main office and there does not seem to be any organized effort from the company to seriously market the same brand abroad. I believe it is important the the virgin coconut oil come from countries where coconuts are grown organic by default. Then the process is truly unheated, which makes the coconut oil truly virgin.

This brand, Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil seems to have good reviews when it comes to taste:

Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil

CheeryToes says: “Delicious – I’ve tried two of the major coconut oil brands that I order via the internet. I’ve been using the oil in food and on my skin for about 5 years. I ordered this just to see how it tasted because the price was so good, if it didn’t taste right, I’d just use it on my skin. It is the BEST tasting oil I’ve tried. Tropical Traditions, Coconut Oil Supreme pale in comparison. This is truly a coconut oil you could eat right out of the jar. If you want to try a coconut oil that tastes as good as it smells, this is it. And the price is fabulous. Yea, Nutiva and Amazon!”

H. Hill says: “I love this coconut oil! It has a delicate coconut aroma and flavor. I have only just started using it but have found it to be delicious when making pancakes in lieu of using butter. I have also used it as a substitute for butter when making grilled cheese sandwiches and baked sweet potatoes. It will do wonders for your hair and skin too. I especially like using it as a hot oil treatment for my hair. I mix the coconut oil with a few drops of lemon essential oil and rub it into my hair. It smells like dessert and good for my hair and scalp. Try it with your favorite essential oils!

Warning: It melts at 76F. Be careful when opening a jar that’s been sitting in a warm cupboard.”

Oh, I see, virgin coconut oil seems to harden in cold climates. VCO never hardens in my country, the Philippines, it does not get cold enough here. My family uses VCO as a cooking oil, for massages, as a deodorant, for insect bites, for dry skin, for dandruff as hot oil in the scalp… and for those doing detoxing, we use VCO for the very powerful VCO Detox!

Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil product description: “we press our coconuts within 2 hours of chopping. No refrigeration required. Solid at room temperature and melts at 76 degrees. Any coconut husk fibers at the bottom of the jar are indigenous to the processing and harmless. Coconut oil contains medium-chain good fats with 50-55% lauric acid – a healthful nutrient that supports the metabolism. Certified organic by QAI. Product of the Philippines.”

Alright… Product of the Philippines, our country’s gift to the world.

We usually order a big case of 500ml bottles in the Philippines. But I think my relatives in the USA use gallon sizes.
