CNN Exposes Big Pharma’s Payouts to Doctors

December 18, 2010 by Good Samaritan

A popular news agency called CNN made a video exposing Big Pharma payouts to doctors in exchange for prescribing their new drug products.

(CNN) — Drug industry critics celebrated last month when Pro Publica announced a new searchable database called “Dollars for Docs.”

No longer will worried patients have to rely on reporters to expose doctors on the payroll of the drug industry. Now patients can do it themselves. With a few simple keystrokes, anyone with a computer can search the “Dollars for Docs” database to see how much money their doctor is getting from pharma.

For decades pharmaceutical companies have given doctors gifts and money as ways of getting them to prescribe their drugs. During the flush 1990s, companies began ramping up these gifts dramatically — entertaining doctors at expensive restaurants, sending them to conferences in exotic locations, even writing checks disguised as “unrestricted educational grants.”

When PhRMA, the pharmaceutical industry trade group, began cracking down on these gifts in 2002 in response to public criticism, the influence game began to take another shape. Today, pharmaceutical companies influence doctors by inviting them to be paid speakers or consultants — or as the companies call them, “thought leaders.”

Below is a listing of the top pharmaceutical companies ranked by U.S. sales in 2009 as well as smaller companies that have disclosed, or plan to disclose, payments. The chart compares each company’s disclosures to the requirements of the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, under which every company must report a range of information to the federal government beginning in 2013.

Companies highlighted in pink (or at least one of their subsidiaries) are required to disclose doctor payments as part of settlement agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Here in the Philippines, we have a generics law. Hopefully your doctor is observing the generics law and writing the generic equivalent in the prescription he writes to you.

Mercato Bonifacio Global City: Finally a Weekend Organic Market

December 7, 2010 by Good Samaritan

At last a weekend organic market called Marcato has opened in Bonifacio Global City. It is open mornings Saturdays and Sundays. I visited last Sunday morning, an awesome crowded place. And with higher purchasing budgets of the people in the area, expect a more varied amount of products to proliferate.

Parking is easy, plentiful and convenient. There are several tents, don’t just stick to the first entrance tent, go inside and visit the other tents. There’s lots of food, organic food and not organic food, some organic products and not organic products. There are quite a few environmental nifty inventions like the lifetime baby diapers, the most beautiful bayongs on earth, and possibly many more I’ve missed.

If you live in the Bonifacio Global City area, you can stop crowding the Makati weekend markets and stay in Bonifacio Global City, no need to go the the Quezon City Lung Center either.

Some pictures I took in the Mercato Weekend Market:

Grumpy Vegan: Excessive Health by Being Beautiful, Attractive, Sensual, Sexual of Raw Paleo Dieters is Bad Karma – Animalistic

December 3, 2010 by Good Samaritan

A grumpy vegan / vegetarian named Corin lashes out at Raw Paleo Dieters like me for being excessively healthy:

“Other things that many people notice in people who adopt a raw animal product diet is that these people become very primal physically and sexually, often becoming quite “beautiful,” attractive, sensual, and I have noticed an excess of promiscuity among “primal” practioners, as have others. Yet this is all part of returning to an animalistic nature. Additionally there is the ego jolt people get on the diet from consuming other animals and getting power from it. This of course is a false sense of power however, and I shudder to think of all the bad karma these people are creating from a misused sense of power.”

Alkalize Quickly: How to Make Raw Kamote Tops Juice (Sweet Potato Tops)

December 2, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Here is the simplest, fastest, cheapest way to alkalize your body quickly: drink a cup or a glass full of raw kamote tops juice — sweet potato tops — tops of leaves. In that 1 or 2 glasses per day, the most acidic bodies will cool down and alkalize quickly. Great for people with bleeding / hemorrhaging problems like dengue fever, internal cervical bleeding, intestinal bleeding – this drink thickens your blood. Use wisely.

These are sold 6 pesos per bunch in our mini wet market / talipapa in the village. I got this bunch just as it was picked and delivered around 6:45am.

How to make this raw kamote tops juice drink:

  • Buy your kamote tops bunch
  • Remove the leaves one by one.
  • Do not include the tip most tiny leaves as they taste too bitter, or your healer may wish to include those for another purpose.
  • Wash the leaves.
  • Pound with a little water.
  • Strain the juice out, no fiber needed.
  • Add some filtered water.
  • Drink up.  Wait 10 minutes before ingesting anything else.
  • 1 bunch makes 2 cups.

It doesn’t taste bad. it tastes pretty good for those who need it. Our tastes vary according to our current body needs.

Good supplement for those who eat all of their meat cooked like those on cooked meat paleo diet.

Kamote tops are generally organic and safe. They grow too well in the Philippines. Nobody bothers spraying them with herbicides or insecticides because they grow so well. Plant some in your own garden if you like.

See the gallery of pictures how this raw kamote tops juice is prepared:

New Don Croft Terminator Zapper Arrives! Yahoo!

December 2, 2010 by Good Samaritan

We used to have a very reliable terminator zapper made by Don Croft. It was a very useful little thing. The best antibiotic. Easy, drug free, fast acting. If you have not tried zapping, you are missing a lot. Thank you to Hulda Clark and her son for inventing the zapper and donating the technology open source to the world. This Don Croft zapper is a unique modification and with its small package, is the most convenient of all the zappers we’ve had. Unfortunately, last year’s big flood caused us to lose all our zappers.

We tried ordering a don croft zapper many months ago, but somehow we didn’t get it. This time we got it.

This don croft zapper has changed somewhat. Instead of the copper pennies, it now has big copper discs. And the instructions have changed. It shows maturity, it shows experience, about what this little baby really does.

I had to choose a narrow 9 volt alkaline battery. I remember we had problems with a rather big battery in the past. Fits perfectly and somehow, there is a very strong magnet pulling the battery in place.

I tried out this new zapper on my left arm. Some stings. Yeah it works. Tried it in my lower tummy, and yeah, some stings, it works.

Just in time for my suspected Crohn’s Disease.

I zapped for more than 20 minutes. Kill all bad parasites, bacteria, fungus, et al. Start with a clean slate. And just before I sleep I took 5 capsules of Healthy Options Probiotic Quattro. Hmmm…. seems I need to buy more probiotics tomorrow.

I’ll have to start culturing these probiotics myself to create more of it and save some cash. These probiotics are expensive and the activation dose / therapeutic dose is 5 to 10 times the recommended regular dosage.

This is just one example of how this zapper is used. I hope it comes into service for us for many, many more years to come.

If you don’t have a zapper in your home, then you had better get yourself one.

Is Himalayan Salt or Ocean Rock Salt Healthier Than Kikkoman Soy Sauce?

November 25, 2010 by Good Samaritan

Lately I’ve been putting together family symptoms and I’m theorizing we need the minerals in real rock salt or himalayan salt than just the sodium in Kikkoman soy sauce. My kids’ and my wife’s cooked meat food is usually seasoned with Kikkoman soy sauce then cooked. How about switching to real salt and pepper instead?

My almost 6 year old daughter still wets her bed sometimes, that’s a clue. My 9 year old boy is not gaining the desired weight we want him to have. And my wife still has her recurring rhinitis.

Me, I’m on raw paleo diet and hardly ever get sick. Except for the time I got victimized by PTA food cooked junk. I developed loose stools.

Looking at the history of how this loose stool debacle began, it was during the violent detox of that bad cooked PTA food.

One thing wrong with my usual raw diet is I do not add salt to my food.

It may just be a case of salt deficiency.

So I had some salt lunch and dinner. Found my mother in law has some Himalayan salt.

Then last night I mixed a little salt and lemon juice in a slight warm water and drink it to stop loose stools and dysentery.

As found in http://www.panjokutch.com/health/general/loose%20stool%20-%20dysentery.htm

I think this salt cure will work.

I must have been severely salt depleted from that incident. Problem is I don’t have any salty cravings.

Real salt is not just NaCl, it is a whole lot of other minerals in it.

More about the importance of real salt here http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/salt.htm

I may get well from loose stools pretty fast with this new break through. Maybe that salmonella analysis by the beam ray expert is true, but it only persisted because I was low in real salt body content due to the detox issue with the pta bad food.

If I think about it, real salt is more ancient and more paleolithic than soy sauce. It’s worth a shot and I already told the maid I’m not buying anymore kikkoman soy sauce for now and she has to revert to using himalayan salt because that’s what is available in the kitchen right now.
