I just watched 10000 BC the movie and I really liked it. I’ve been raw paleolithic dieting since January 2008 and I’ve just re-read the book Guns Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond about how the hunter gatherers are usually over-run and eventually replaced by agricultural civilization or the hunter gatherers themselves become farmers themselves.
That was the gist of the 10000 BC movie. The hero’s father set off to look for agricultural technology to save his people from starving because it appears that the woolly mammoths they depend on for their food are fast disappearing. He did find agricultural technology but he was kidnapped by a lost civilization which regularly raided hunter gatherers for slaves. Our hero, because the love of his life was also enslaved went on to organize fellow hunter gatherer tribes to form an army against the lost civilization. In this battle, the hunter gatherers won. Hooray for the underdogs.
At the end of the movie, the hunter gatherers watch as their new crops grow fast, they are now farmers. And as we raw paleolithic dieters know, it is agriculture that led to the downward spiral of health of people for 10,000 years. Fully fed hunter gatherers were much healthier than fully fed farmers, or fully fed 21st century urbanites.
It was a fun movie. I loved seeing those woolly mammoths come to life. I checked the internet and it seems the last mammoths died out just very recently around 1700 BC. The hunter gatherers were built and they were strong. The writers did their homework. Civilized soldiers are no match for hunter gatherers one on one. The soldiers had to have superior numbers or superior technology to defeat hunter gatherers and in the movie, the soldiers did not have superior numbers.
It helped that the lead actress, Camilla Belle, was extremely pretty. She looks like the daughter of Tom Cruise. But I read she’s not. She does look like Tom Cruise. Wow, a girl version of Tom Cruise is pretty! And she had perfect teeth! Hunter gatherers usually do have perfect teeth!
I just snacked on 5 raw egg yolks before I sat down and wrote this review. Yummy. My bedtime snack.
