Rare Anonas Fruit / Custard Apple Found in Marikina Market

Interesting, I found some rare anonas fruit in Marikina fruit market. Bought it for 70 pesos a kilo. Little did I know that the english name is custard apple. The old lady selling it said that in the old days before Marikina became a concrete jungle, there were lots of anonas trees. In fact, just outside Marikina in the corner of Aurora Blvd is the street of Anonas. So Anonas st. is not named after a person, it is named after a fruit.

It’s the first time I’ve tasted anonas fruit. It looks like atis inside. It tastes somewhat like atis, but different. And it’s good. Not much flesh, mostly seeds. I think there’s lots of nutrition in it and can see I only need to eat one anonas fruit to satisfy my appetite for it.
