Filipinos suffer from rice addiction

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I remember when I was on a training seminar in the USA a long time ago.  We were some 8 filipinos sent to a small town in Minnesota, USA.  They fed us the normal USA food they had for 5 straight days.  At the end of the seminar we were getting restless.  The host asked where we would like to celebrate the end of the training.  We all chimed in, somewhere where we can eat rice!

Imagine, Filipinos going for 5 straight days without rice, it is insane!  Absolute torture!  The only place they knew they had rice was a Chinese restaurant.  Good enough.  We chowed down.

Now imagine the regular Filipino today.  I can observe from a 3rd party point of view because I’ve been raw for some 3 months now.   Filipinos are hooked on rice.  No, addicted to rice!  Rice in the morning, noon and night.  Rice cakes in the mid afternoon or mid morning.  It is insane.  Add bread to this along with the rice.  Add the sweets, the coffee.  Ok, let’s stick to just the rice facts.

No wonder Filipinos used to suffer from Beriberi, that vitamin B deficiency owed to eating just polished rice.  Ross Horne says asians with rice as staple have increased pancreas sizes due to the daily load.  It is insane.  There is monotony.  Rice monotony.  And Filipinos don’t notice it.

I’m glad I’ve cured myself of rice addiction and lived to blog about it.

Why the american indian quit the raw for 30 days program

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I have a theory regarding the reason the american indian diabetic in the www.rawfor30days.com program quit. He said so himself and we should accept his words at face value. He said “I’m just about ready to cross over”, meaning, I feel like dying on this diet. “I’m just not used to eating like this.”

Rather his body makeup, his genes, his whole physique is not meant to be vegan. Veganism does not work on everyone. You can’t make an eskimo a vegan and expect him to be healthy. Just as you can’t make all american indians vegans!

I’ve read that american indian ancestors thrived in the american plains taking care of bison and hunting other animals. American indians ate quite a lot of raw fresh meat. When the white men came and slaughtered the bison, the indians had to preserve the dead meat as jerky or some other form, but this was less nutritious and the indians lost strength.

Carol Alt says her doctor did some profiling with her to determine how much animal meat she needs in her diet. I would think the american indian in the raw for 30 days program would have been cured of his diabetes if the raw meat and raw fats approach was used on him. Of course the producers and the tree of life center in arizona has no expertise on raw meat and raw fats.

So I say to you raw foodists to open your mind to adjusting your ways. Yes we need raw foods to heal. But raw food does not just mean purely fruits or purely vegetables or purely animal sources. See what works for you. Listen to your body. Follow your taste buds. If it tastes great raw, and you love it, eat it until you get your fill.

High quality organic raw food is expensive

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

We don’t eat out anymore.  But our food bill is astronomical.  All this raw food exploration is expensive.  I know it doesn’t have to be when we stabilize on it.  But right now exploring, going around, experimenting is expensive.

Saturdays, buying organic vegetables and buying top quality fruits.  Every other day, buying more top quality fruits.  Every 3 days some top quality animal produce like fresh raw beef, fresh raw fish, fresh raw milk, fresh raw eggs.

Sure, rice and some vegetable tops like kamote tops are cheap.  But they are not the ideal human foods.  From a cooked foods point of view they are good enough.  But good enough is not my goal.

I’m looking at healing and looking good in every square centimeter of skin all over my body.  Flawless if you will.

Look.  Zero medical bills for me.  Zero vitamin bills.  Zero supplement bills.  Whatever for?  I buy the top quality fresh raw organic foods already.

I got a tip that bananas are really healthy.  Maybe I should just increase my banana intake and save more money.  Or better, I get healthier and I get better in my web development business so I earn more money and can purchase a wider variety of healthy raw foods.

Ligation misconceptions propagated to new mothers

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

A party, an old friend, new mother, full of joy and misconceptions as well.  We were discussing the joys and pains of new motherhood with the new mother and my wife.  Then they discussed their c-sections as if it is the “normal” thing in today’s medically rotten world.  Then the usual comment that after my wife had given birth to the 3rd child she should have gotten a ligation at the same time while her tummy was open.

My wife knew how to handle such ligation misconceptions.  That ligations are never safe.  I added that ligations debilitate you.  Never do that to yourself now and in the future as it will harm you in the worst ways.  My wife courteously says ligation will make you older.

Ligation means your body get screwed because your natural plumbing is medically perverted.  My wife and I knew this ahead of time.  Every time my wife gives birth we prepare a birth contract.  Absolutely no talk or suggestions from the doctor about contraception or ligation.  We are healthy conscious people.  We value our health, thank you very much.

The premise that ligation is safe and good for you is a total outright, blatant lie.  Don’t be a victim.

Dinner party last night had nothing raw to serve

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I attended a big dinner party last night and as expected they had nothing raw to serve. Good thing I ate a lot of raw kinilaw na dilis before going to the party.

They had scotch whiskey, beer, wine, fried peanuts, fried pork skin (chicharon) and all cooked meats and cooked rice.

I asked for the waiter if they had raw fruit juices. He said there was absolutely none.

People were having a grand time getting drunk and singing with the live band. It was a blast of course to be with friends. I just did not see the need why I should sacrifice my health to have a good time and good conversations with friends.

They ask why I’m not drinking alcohol, if it is a health issue, I nod yes. They see me getting slim and ask if I’m getting slimmer because I’ve got a lot of women, I naughtily say yes.

With all the noise happening in the party, it would be a hard stretch to explain that I’m into health and raw food only eating.

I did not eat nor drink a single thing in the party.

We had raw Kinilaw na Dilis last night

January 13, 2008 by Good Samaritan

I find the time to buy fresh Dilis yesterday afternoon at Farmers Market. Got 2 kilos of fresh Dilis at P 120 / kilo.

At home I watched how our maids did the kilaw. First they tediously gutted the Dilis fish one by one. They had to take off the heads and the stomachs because they said these were bitter. Then roll the Dilis in Lola Conching’s organic coconut vinegar (all coconuts are organic in the Philippines) to remove the lansa or fishy slimy smell, taste and feel. I tasted the vinegar cleaned raw fish, yummy. Then put chopped onions and chopped luya / ginger in it. Then squeezed more than a dozen calamansi on it. Then chopped some fresh sili in it.

All done, ready to serve. I think we put too much sili for the children. Only my 2nd son, the 4 year old was man enough to eat it with that much sili. He did so with water beside his plate. Manang Maring our cook was absent yesterday. Seems we don’t know here secret for her Kinilaw to be child friendly like she did the other night.

I enjoyed it. I loved that much sili.
